We landed in Melbourne early in the morning, collected by one of my best friends, Michelle, who drove us back to her and her soon-to-be husband, Al's appartment in the centre of the city. (Apparently it's not an appartment. I got in trouble for calling it that on Facebook -K)
Soon after arriving, we all headed out for a full city tour.
Kenny & I under the clocks at the central station, a classic meeting point in town.
Funky buildings at 'Fed' Square.
By the beautiful river area.
Michelle & Al (our fabulous hosts) with a great view of the city.
The city has some fantastic shopping malls.
With some extraordinary architecture.
It is true to say that arriving in Melbourne was the first time I realised how limited my travel wardrobe was. These trousers (the balloon pants) were one of only 2 pairs I have with me! Not the classic Melbourne look I can tell you.
(Note: My style is universally unfashionable, so I'm equally at home everywhere! - K)
It was great to spend time with such special friends of ours in their fantastic appartment. (Seriously, I wouldn't call it an apparetment, if I were you. - K)
The next day we headed off to the coast to stay in one of Al's friend's farm. This house, which we saw on the way, has to be the oddest I have seen.
The coastal areas are beautiful.
Wine & cheese up on the farm.
The sea was pretty rough this day.
Back at the farm house later for drinks (too many drinks)!
The 12 Appostles.
Back to Melbourne for the Wednesday food market where we had some fantastic market food.
At last I found a man and his didgeridoo!
A relaxing afternoon spent in one of the many city parks.
Very relaxing for Kenny who as you can see on the left fell asleep for most of the time.
The fabulous war memorial. A really incredible building.
Top of the war memorial - wow, what a view.
That night a big storm hit Melbourne full of the most amazing lightening. - The view from the apartment. (I'm really not joking about this appartment naming thing. - K)
Up early to walk up the famous 1000 steps. We all made it!
Our last night, and off we all went to see an Aussie Rules Football match.
I have no idea of the rules (even after they were explained) but as far a I could tell it involves lots of men, lots of running & lots of pushing around. Great fun.
We had such an amazing week, huge thanks to Al & Michelle. Such a vibrant city, I can see why Brits love it. Made even better by such fabulous company.
