Tasmania

As soon as we arrived in Tasmania, we drove up (with our fantastic hosts Duncan & Audre) to the peak above Tasmania to view Hobart and the surrounding area. Pretty good, I think you will agree.

Back down at the harbour in Hobart, there was a wooden boat show.

I have never seen so many wooden boats.

The old Victorian harbour warehouses were still there and added an old English air to the place.

Back up at Duncan & Audre's home was a perfect place for Wallaby watching.

Their house was just above Oyster Cove where their main home, the boat, was docked.

After driving out into the fabulous Tasmanian countryside it was easy to see why people visit Tasmania and decide to stay.

The old world architecture was beautiful.

Later that day we went to visit the boat 'Matsu'.

This beautiful yacht is finely crafted to make use of every single space whilst feeling every bit like home for Duncan & Audre's round the world trips.

Duncan in his usual spot.

Back at the house we were pleased to see many more wallabies and this one who still has her joey in her pouch.

The following day we headed out even further across to visit Wine Glass Bay, stopping at this small holding for ice cream.

Shortly after, we set off to walk over to the bay, finding some very interesting rock formations on the way.

Where has Kenny's head gone?

Finally we arrived at the best viewing point for the bay.

A stunning sight.

Very hot day too.

We were very keen to go out on the boat, and Duncan & Audre very kindly took us out the next day across the waters to Bruney Island. Here Duncan putting up, the main sail, I think.

The main sail!

We were off.

I am sure we could get to like this sailing lark.

Back to Oyster Bay.

There were adverts up all over Hobart promoting a new exhibition in town, a private collection of a local millionaire, so we all decided to go and see what it was all about. Some of the exhibits were interesting like this 'Fat Porche'.

And this device that dripped water from ceiling to floor spelling out words with the drips. How odd that my name was one of the words!
It must be said that some (or most) of the exhibits were of a much more macabre nature, certainly made us all wonder what kind of a man bought such pieces.

Our final morning and time for a final walk down by the ocean.

Tasmania is an incredible place, it should never be missed off from any trip to Australia. We had an amazing visit here and will take away so many great memories. However our visit was made perfect by Duncan & Audre, who welcomed us into their home as if we were old friends (we had only met them once before at Duncan's daughter, Simone's, wedding anniversary). We are both hugely grateful for their incredible hospitality, Audre's fantastic cooking and their great conversation.
Thank you so much Duncan & Audre, and all the best for your Asia trip on your wonderful boat, Matsu.
